Jobs
Congressman Tim Johnson is putting a priority on job creation. He has supported efforts to reduce government regulation to encourage job creation by America’s businesses. He supports a long term extension for the Highway Bill that will put needed money into our roads and bridges, provide jobs, and create an infrastructure that can be relied on by businesses.
Fiscal Responsibility
Congressman Johnson has been a long time advocate of fiscally responsible budgets. He has voted against every budget, continuing resolution and accompanying debt ceiling increases since 2005 because of excessive spending levels and misplaced priorities. Congressman Johnson also voted against the Budget Control Act of 2011because of its lack of long-term fiscal reforms.
Responsible Use of America’s Military
Congressman Johnson believes in a strong military for the defense of America. At the same time, he believes that we need to reduce our involvement in overseas military ventures that diminish our ability to protect America. These unnecessary military ventures, which are not in the vital interests of America, have cost taxpayers over a trillion dollars now. When the war against Libya was started, Congressman Johnson was a leader in calling for a stop to the action and demanding that the President go to Congress for authorization as required by the War Powers Act.
Agriculture
Congressman Johnson has served on the Agriculture Committee of the House since first being elected. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Rural Development , Biotechnology, and Research subcommittee.
Social Security and Medicare
Congressman Johnson believes strongly in Medicare and Social Security. He opposes any changes to the programs that would impact people over the age of 55. At the same time, he supports reforms to the programs that will ensure their viability and vitality for future generations.
Energy
Congressman Johnson supports common sense and environmentally sound development of America’s energy resources. He supports development of clean coal technologies, nuclear energy and is an advocate of new technologies that help companies capture more energy resources while protecting the environment and reducing our reliance on foreign oil.
Health Care
Congressman Johnson supports market oriented reforms to America’s health care system that can lower costs and provide a better quality of care. He voted against Obamacare and opposes excessive government intervention in the health care system. He has sponsored legislation that would eliminate Obamacare. He also has sponsored legislation that would increase the use of health savings accounts that empower health care consumers.
Constituent Service
While working and voting for common sense legislation for America’s future, Congressman Johnson has also maintained one of the strongest records of constituent service of any Congressman. He routinely calls constituents to ask them their opinion and to find ways in which his office can assist them. His work on behalf of his constituents was part of the reason that The Hill magazine named him as one of the 25 hardest working Congressmen in America.
