U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Ill., was in Springfield this week to receive an award from the Illinois Community Action Association for his advocacy of community service agencies.
According to a release from Johnson's office, the seven community action agencies in his congressional district received $2.67 million in federal Community Service Block Grants in 2004.
The congressman was nominated by the Embarras River Basin Agency, which serves low-income residents in the southern portion of his district.
"I am humbled and grateful for this recognition," Johnson said in a written release.
The award has generally gone to Democrats in the past, including last year's winner, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.
